“Hahaha!”
A chubby guy couldn’t help but burst into laughter, interrupting the serious atmosphere of the morning meeting.
Chen Lu, who was in the midst of an intense talk, immediately frowned, “Yu Du, what are you laughing at?”
“Ah, nothing, nothing,” Yu Du quickly shook his head.
“Do you not believe what I said?” Lu Chen asked harshly.
Yu Du scratched his head and said embarrassedly, “Director Chen, you mentioned that I think about pursuing a relationship with Qian Mi every day. You’re right, I do think about it day and night. But according to your law of attraction, why hasn’t she become my wife yet?”
“Hahaha…” as soon as he finished speaking, the surrounding sales staff burst into laughter.
Lu Chen gave him a cold stare and scoffed, “Are you questioning me? Do you think you can marry a Superstar like her? Have you ever looked in the mirror?” The laughter around them grew louder.
Yu Du’s face turned red, and he defended himself, “Didn’t you just say that as long as we dare to dream, the universe will pay for us?” Everyone was stunned. Yes, this was different from what Lu Chen had just said.
Lu Chen coughed and said, “But you still need to have some real thoughts. With your current income and appearance, do you really think Qian Mi will marry you? If you really had that much belief, you would have become a billionaire by now.”
Another guy raised his hand and asked, “Director Chen, you said that everyone wants to win the championship at the sports meeting, why is there only one winner?”
Chen Lu was somewhat provoked by their questioning, feeling that her authority was being challenged. “You don’t even know that? You’re silly. Because that person believed the most in themselves to win.”
Seeing me passing by, she immediately stopped me and said, “Wei Zhou, what are you hiding from? Go to the office and wait for me. I have something to talk to you about!”
“Oh, okay Director Chen, I’ll go now.” Lu Chen was angry, and I didn’t want to provoke her, so I quickly nodded and turned to walk toward the office area.
After taking a few steps, I heard Lu Chen shouting behind me, “What are you all staring at? Your eyes are about to pop out. Haven’t you seen a woman before?”
Yu Du laughed, “Director Chen, I’m going to set a more practical goal. You said I always think about Wei Zhou. Can she marry me?” The laughter around them rose again.
I waited in the office for about ten minutes until Lu Chen opened the door and walked in.
“Wei, why are you standing? Sit down quickly,” she said in an unusually gentle tone, which surprised me. She walked to her desk as she spoke.
I sat opposite her, “Director Chen, did you need to see me about something?”
She looked at me with a complicated glance, hesitated for a moment, and took a document out of her folder. “Wei Zhou, I won’t beat around the bush. The company did not pass your probationary period. Sign this and then go to the finance department to get paid!”
I nodded, took the document from her, flipped to the last page, signed with the pen on the desk, and handed it back to her.
She took the document and glanced at it in surprise. She asked me, “Aren’t you surprised? Don’t you have any questions?”
I smiled and said, “There is a beginning and an end, this is inevitable, there’s nothing to be surprised about.”
Lu Chen paused for a moment and continued, “What are your plans for the future then?” I said, “I don’t know.”
Lu Chen nodded, “I see, it was sudden, take your time to think. Give me a call if you need any help.”
I smiled and replied, “Okay, thank you, Director Chen. If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave now.”
Lu Chen frowned and stared at me for a moment as if trying to find something on my face. But obviously, I disappointed her, and she said “ Good luck!”
“Goodbye!” I stood up and walked out, Lu Chen’s voice came from behind me, “Wei Zhou, let me give you a piece of advice, never believe a man’s bullshit, they’re all bastards.”
All experiences teach us something, to understand that life is the most beautiful fate, and to understand that everything is as it is. Once again, I was unemployed, and unlike before, this time, a few colleagues saw me off. I couldn’t recall their names, so I just bowed and thanked them.
In my heart, I thought, “Wow, the longest and shortest jobs are tightly connected, it’s unbelievable!” To celebrate this wonderful experience, I played at the amusement park in the heart of the city for the whole day, and I didn’t return home until the evening, feeling unsatisfied. I entered into a sweet dream.
In the morning, I slowly opened my eyes, and the warm sunshine poured in from outside the window. I stretched out and felt refreshed, feeling that there could be no moment more perfect than this! I haven’t done anything, but I have everything in front of me. A comfortable bed, a newly bought potted plant giving off a fresh scent, Qian Qian’s sweet smile in the photo, the mottled marks and lively cracks on the walls, and the clear blue sky outside the window… so beautiful, so vivid! Even if I run out of words for my entire life, I feel that they wouldn’t be enough to describe the beauty of this moment.
I looked at the calligraphy left by my grandfather, “The Way of heaven is to benefit others and not injure.”!” I smiled, joy overflowing from my heart, feeling that it was almost full and about to overflow, and yet it kept coming. So bright, so dazzling, here, I don’t need to know anything, but I exist!
Suddenly, I had the urge to write, not for work or livelihood, but simply to express love. In my view, understanding love means understanding ourselves. When we understand ourselves, we also understand love. They both come from the same source, just named differently. I don’t need to understand any saints or great people, or learn any knowledge or skills; those are all stories in the mind. Love is pure and simple, and so are we, our true selves.
I want to describe you, the real you, through words, stripped of fear, greed, control, and assimilation. In love, we submit ourselves to reality and the vibrant life around us. In love, we can’t have any problems because our true selves are the answer to everything!
Writing is the expression of feelings and a transfer of energy. To me, what can be described in words isn’t real, at most it’s a metaphor that requires no effort. I don’t need an outline, character studies, or elegant prose. When it’s time for me to write, the whole story and characters automatically unfold, and the words amalgamate themselves. They dance in front of me, constantly shouting, “Pick me, pick me.”
I know that these inspirations don’t belong to me; they all come from “Dao.” Some people think that they’re the ones creating the work and that they are adorable. I’ve never been an author, at most, I’m a messenger. But even this is a metaphor. I haven’t done anything; I’m just paying attention.
