The garrison commander of Ningling, having long heard tell of Nan Jiyun’s martial renown, lent him a force of three thousand foot soldiers. With this modest band, Nan marched to the gates of Suiyang. Yet General Yin Ziqi had foreseen his coming and stood ready—his ranks bristling with fierce nomadic cavalry.
