In dreams I do not know I am but a guest, briefly indulging joy.　　Do not lean alone on the balustrade — this boundless realm; parting comes easy, meeting is hard.　　Flowing water and fallen blossoms — spring is gone, between heaven and earth.　　Since the Supreme One became Pangu and split heaven from earth, and the universe first emerged, all things on earth began to flourish. Later, the pillar that upheld the sky toppled and the land of the divine realm cracked; so the Supreme One transformed again into Nüwa, smelting five-colored divine stones to mend the heavens. From one breath three Pure Ones were born, and by the decree of the gods heaven and earth were ordered; thus the first tranquil age was established. Qin unified the seven states and centralized power, standardizing script and axle width; Han drove the Xiongnu north and secured the realm, allowing markets to be regulated; Sui framed institutions — three departments and six ministries, the exam system; Tang gathered the achievements of earlier dynasties and, through the governance of Zhenguan and Yonghui, brought the land to lasting peace.　　Yet although Tang replaced Sui as heaven’s mandate seemed to intend, it did not follow the true measure.
